Geez, it's already been a month since Spring Quilt Market and I'm finally getting around to posting. That just goes to show how crazy things become when the kids get out of school and summer break begins.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wanted to give you a little peek into what I've been up to lately and then over the next couple weeks I'll post more in depth about each new adventure. But for now, here's a few tidbits to tease you with. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzks6E8nLDVO6pZTToxFDet6Xzsx_figA6qs4bODJJz_TYSbJ_JvB9Csl_W7rgw11N0q_wlvFwAJVXV7YJ3RbOb4zbwvywdBzjjjLZT1GKegSM9SKzgGBbI38Ywy71KMi9eBMNCC-7Z3g/s1600/P1000046.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="449" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzks6E8nLDVO6pZTToxFDet6Xzsx_figA6qs4bODJJz_TYSbJ_JvB9Csl_W7rgw11N0q_wlvFwAJVXV7YJ3RbOb4zbwvywdBzjjjLZT1GKegSM9SKzgGBbI38Ywy71KMi9eBMNCC-7Z3g/s640/P1000046.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My booth this season featured my brand new fabric collection Up and Away for <a href="http://www.michaelmillerfabrics.com/">Michael Miller Fabrics.</a> I plan to do a full feature post on the collection in a few days for for now I will tell you it embodies all the fascination and wonder of childhood and flying.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyioK3S0BEbIx1mGsQGUHMc0TD6I9gcwgzqO2NbUrnFk_IHFt1sVj0JLUCZNeg0QYwNpCR2ybVZ0fJJn5yweHhOpmoH-CYxMPOBxpPjayw2fK9LOaRjuR0r8EuTUfxhVeCcjid6r-J-m0/s1600/IMG_1011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyioK3S0BEbIx1mGsQGUHMc0TD6I9gcwgzqO2NbUrnFk_IHFt1sVj0JLUCZNeg0QYwNpCR2ybVZ0fJJn5yweHhOpmoH-CYxMPOBxpPjayw2fK9LOaRjuR0r8EuTUfxhVeCcjid6r-J-m0/s640/IMG_1011.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There are two colorways: one for boys and another for girls. I chose a color palette what would reach beyond babies and work for older children and adults as well. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcLO7b-vluQsnZ122JmqMNBl90ENuu1_Yp2zvKBAE4CyvTxTdi1OfYLSqNMXNIlmpCRszeMPr-HMKp4J7aoj_RoS65ehgH8kAZBUtjyKcswuoxyBG0WpbnPt1xW8pz1zKvnhb5kaGEDA8/s1600/P1000040+-+Copy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcLO7b-vluQsnZ122JmqMNBl90ENuu1_Yp2zvKBAE4CyvTxTdi1OfYLSqNMXNIlmpCRszeMPr-HMKp4J7aoj_RoS65ehgH8kAZBUtjyKcswuoxyBG0WpbnPt1xW8pz1zKvnhb5kaGEDA8/s640/P1000040+-+Copy.JPG" width="598" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One of the most exciting features in my booth was my new thread and embroidery floss (not pictured) collections for <a href="http://www.aurifil.com/">Aurifil</a>. I have been a fan of Aurifil ever since I first saw their gorgeous colors and threaded it through my machine. It's just wonderful. My thread collection features 12 different colors of 50wt thread that perfectly complement my fabric collection. The embroidery floss collection contains 10 fabulous colors of 6 strand cotton embroidery floss on the most adorable wooden spools.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgl3pAjhi996eclTIK0LPspEippOTaOU8jjhtCR8AgCqLuVt7S9xabq5k_Ppy4ESVHPYKSzmzK8hGwcyuj_WvU25I43uWt8KlkWbZDlwU0gHj2yfpe3MdIiabnyBlxkeCVYeUdH91qkEcA/s1600/IMG_0950.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgl3pAjhi996eclTIK0LPspEippOTaOU8jjhtCR8AgCqLuVt7S9xabq5k_Ppy4ESVHPYKSzmzK8hGwcyuj_WvU25I43uWt8KlkWbZDlwU0gHj2yfpe3MdIiabnyBlxkeCVYeUdH91qkEcA/s640/IMG_0950.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also debuted my new line of hand embroidery patterns- STITCHES. I have loved hand embroidery ever since I was introduced to it nearly 12 years ago. There are 4 individual patterns with several more on the way. And each features my Aurifil embroidery floss collection.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLq6znl-Xz4DjzZHejRppeKSL5sIykam2Zm-_jPK2AyFdJQFzHtOtj53vGsu9hY2fmtKuzepnI_5teKf1K66K4k29C8_XhIsSphMzWc6SCAvcfbY-eLi14GzcyHhtGIIkK9TH0PsZegzo/s1600/Grow+With+Me-+COVER-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLq6znl-Xz4DjzZHejRppeKSL5sIykam2Zm-_jPK2AyFdJQFzHtOtj53vGsu9hY2fmtKuzepnI_5teKf1K66K4k29C8_XhIsSphMzWc6SCAvcfbY-eLi14GzcyHhtGIIkK9TH0PsZegzo/s640/Grow+With+Me-+COVER-1.jpg" width="494" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lastly but certainly not least I shared a sneak peek of my latest self published book- Grow With Me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Grow With Me features my fabric and thread collections and contains "organizational and decorative projects for children's rooms". I'm super proud of this book and I can't wait to show you more. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It ships the first week of July.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(To order for your shop email crazyoldladies@gmail.com)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As you can see, I've been quite busy. Now that we're settling into a routine (sort of) I hope to make summer as productive as spring was. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
HAPPY SEWING! </div>

<i>Hi friends! Sorry for the delay in posting. I'd scheduled this to post yesterday since I knew I was going to out of town but I just don't have good luck with that and obviously it didn't post. But it's here now, so thank you for your patience.</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Thanks for stopping by for my review of Dresden Carnival! Did you know that dresdens are one of the top trends in quilting right now? Well they are! And as you see the projects in this book you will understand why. They are awesome!</div>

When I first heard that Marian and Yvette were teaming up to write a book I knew it was going to be fantastic and then I saw a little peek of it and I was dying to get my hands on it!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_xsvVYs6CC0RsT8iRkUsnPe45cM1QU_bQ1AQfXWPPZqcgiu1SYKnKqvs-H-cr1yRwgcGfD4kndL3HrGMt7hprKUCxexB7pyYsY56HcDjbf6hZTAAvc9HiNw5QBg17qiXibvvDDeZaazw/s1600/MarianGallian_YvetteJones_BioPic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_xsvVYs6CC0RsT8iRkUsnPe45cM1QU_bQ1AQfXWPPZqcgiu1SYKnKqvs-H-cr1yRwgcGfD4kndL3HrGMt7hprKUCxexB7pyYsY56HcDjbf6hZTAAvc9HiNw5QBg17qiXibvvDDeZaazw/s400/MarianGallian_YvetteJones_BioPic.jpg" width="306" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Marian of <a href="http://www.pinkhippoquilts.com/blog">Pink Hippo Quilts</a> is a long time quilt pattern designer and amazing quilter. She also hosts a quilt retreat in St. George, Utah, <a href="http://www.quiltstgeorge.com/">Quilt St. George</a>, in January. I have been privileged enough to teach at this retreat and it is wonderful event. Yvette, her daughter, is the artistic genius behind all things at <a href="http://www.vetmari.com/blog.html">Vetmari.com</a>. She is a talented designer with fabric, surface and quilt designs all under her belt. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Together they teamed up with <a href="http://www.ctpub.com/blog/dresden-carnival-blog-tour-kickoff/">C&T publishing</a> to bring you this book full of 16 original projects inspired by the classic dresden plate block. But none of these quilts are old timey at all! They took a traditional block and put a contemporary twist on it and the quilts are fabulous. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFZ06Lomq1odA6oGE_msjzH-L269r9qvJtnKwcz2A2kLNLz7JlFoqcz51_84-C749OsbGxuo8UsoFmLvzJRDnXNqsvQ3tje1114lUyQUJjaLjTBZSoKN_N0KeBjOuoUoqW1HS6YSOpyVc/s1600/Peek+A+Boo+Violets.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFZ06Lomq1odA6oGE_msjzH-L269r9qvJtnKwcz2A2kLNLz7JlFoqcz51_84-C749OsbGxuo8UsoFmLvzJRDnXNqsvQ3tje1114lUyQUJjaLjTBZSoKN_N0KeBjOuoUoqW1HS6YSOpyVc/s640/Peek+A+Boo+Violets.jpg" width="570" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The first project that really caught my eye was the quilt above called "Peek-a-Boo Violets." I love how these ladies combined a rounded and a pointed dresden to create this block. Although this quilt was made beautifully in tone on tone fabrics I really think it would look amazing in almost any choices. But whatever fabric choices are picked each block need to be on a contrasting background so you can see those amazing points and curves that bring so much interest to this block.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz_XQJAjCJiuybNlHmLwreUKRTPmOB8pVua0mypV1YDXuL84Wv4dj9kc5SOFxeDW4bXnbMJDXnKBbRLovnoFigYaw4VlS0w_EL5-pVUmzx1WZXPGibGLJv6pVRPFORupCNmwTJBbUT9Dg/s1600/Lily+Pad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz_XQJAjCJiuybNlHmLwreUKRTPmOB8pVua0mypV1YDXuL84Wv4dj9kc5SOFxeDW4bXnbMJDXnKBbRLovnoFigYaw4VlS0w_EL5-pVUmzx1WZXPGibGLJv6pVRPFORupCNmwTJBbUT9Dg/s640/Lily+Pad.jpg" width="610" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Another quilt that caught my eye was "Lily Pad." This fun quilt was made with my <a href="http://crazyoldladiesquilts.blogspot.com/2014/07/getting-to-knowrustique.html">Rustique</a> fabric collection and I LOVE how it looks. One of the things that I really like is the contrast of the darker blue plaid and the angle of each of those pieces and the white plaid that looks "straight" in the star blocks that form between each dresden. The light plaid gives a sense of stillness while the dark plaid adds movement and tends to draw your eye throughout the quilt like gears in a machine. It's really cool and I find myself looking at the quilt over and over.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Each of the quilts in this books is really amazing. And if you've been following the blog hop you've seen many more. I would show you all the quilts if I could but it's more fun for you to purchase the book and see them for yourself. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our friends at C&T are giving away a copy of this book to one of my lucky readers. Simply leave a comment below telling me why you love dresdens and I will choose a winner on MONDAY, MAY 2!</div>

Several months ago I was asked by the people from <a href="https://makeityourselfmagazine.com/">Make it Yourself magazine</a> to plan a "party" using my <a href="http://crazyoldladiesquilts.blogspot.com/2015/06/sodalicious-market-booth.html">SODALICIOUS</a> fabric collection for an upcoming publication. Make it Yourself magazine is part of the Better Homes and Gardens family = BIG DEAL! So of course I said YES!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
That magazine is finally on news stands and I can't wait to tell you all about it!</div>
<div>
(Or order a digital issue <a href="https://bhgspecials.zinio.com/browse/publications/single-issues.jsp?productId=500666722">HERE</a>)<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br />The idea was to replicate some of the ideas from my market booth and design a soda shop themed party. Can I just say that I had so much fun doing this!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This magazine is so cool because not only do they show you pictures of fun things but they also provide instructions and printables so you can host a party of your own! There are so many ideas that range from party decor and treat recipes to crafts for your guests to enjoy. There's even instructions for the soda jerk hat and apron!<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicsmcV-Tiwa8kfqPI17tgowQNLvcvRQJAMFPMvw7RC-XF4IoZKyY9pkv1g-LSs9HL-qecsyAh7Mu0my0yI8xfn-NDFov_bNAaSyIfFHlHE76utuZp65oKn7h4-XdeohaF_5wKF9BpTOu4/s1600/Cover_600.jpg" imageanchor="1"></a><br />

</tbody></table>
<br />I designed some fun throw pillows to toss around the seating area at your party as well as the soda stand pictured above and all of the instructions in the magazine!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I LOVE how they styled the picture below with old 45's lining the wall. You could hit up your local thrift store for some 45's and string them together as a garland or sign for your party. Or if you're really ambitious, line a wall with them like the magazine did ;) </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
There's even a free party kit you can download which includes invitations, recipes and much more!<br /><br />

What I love the most is that a Pop-Up Party is fun for people of all ages!<br />
My daughter's is turning 11 in a couple of weeks and I see a Pop-Up party in her future.<br />
Wouldn't it be fun if me and the hubs hosted an evening get together with some of our grown up friends for a flash-back soda party?<br />
The weather is getting warmer and a soda shop theme for the weekend BBQ and/or picnic would be perfect!<br />
<br />
See what I mean? Time to get planning! </div>

A break from all the regular STUFF? I was watching a <a href="https://www.ted.com/talks">TED talk</a> the other day (don't ask me who, I can't remember) but he was talking about the benefit of taking a sabbatical. When you take time away to regroup and relax it actually helps you to function more productively when you go back to your regularly scheduled programming. I've experienced this first hand and not just with my creative work. I've found I am a much nicer, calmer, more patient and loving Mom when I have had a nice little "time-out" from Mommy-ing for a few days.<br />

It's time for a little YOU-time at the<br />

<br />
A few years ago (2011!) I designed a quilt pattern called <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/179866425/clambake-quilt-pattern-pdf">Clambake</a>. I wanted a giant clam shell quilt and I developed a way that was easy enough to do it (NO CURVED PIECING!). In fact I published a tutorial to show the way. (Sorry, I've taken it down since then)<br />
The next year I debuted my fabric collection <a href="http://crazyoldladiesquilts.blogspot.com/2012/05/getting-settled.html">Shore Thing at Quilt Market</a> and made a Clambake quilt to show off the prints. I received quite a bit of interest and decided to offer it as a paper pattern.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-18l7IoZXeG6qOzKsUZAG1cyWx95L2d4a7poCRUaXzSZdfXmZrmOyfXAA-n0HLjtjEY_-9QBKNzov8DPNq4KADzsC-kHjxgjE_uUtvgqQxXgjbWDq0884DVF9co_SqgGaldSThks0ZFk/s1600/Clambake+COVER.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-18l7IoZXeG6qOzKsUZAG1cyWx95L2d4a7poCRUaXzSZdfXmZrmOyfXAA-n0HLjtjEY_-9QBKNzov8DPNq4KADzsC-kHjxgjE_uUtvgqQxXgjbWDq0884DVF9co_SqgGaldSThks0ZFk/s640/Clambake+COVER.jpg" width="427" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="text-align: center;">Last fall my friend and fellow </span><a href="http://www.michaelmillerfabrics.com/shop/designers/patty-sloniger.html" style="text-align: center;">Michael Miller Fabrics designer</a><span style="text-align: center;">, Patty Sloniger, released a new fabric collection called</span><a href="http://www.beckandlundy.com/2015/10/fall-quilt-market-2015-into-deep.html" style="text-align: center;"> Into the Deep</a><span style="text-align: center;">. As soon as I saw this collection I knew it had to be CLAMBAKE! Those sea horses! Unfortunately I haven't had the time to actually make one but the fabric is patiently waiting for me. And since I made the digital mock up below it's been calling to me even more.</span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgCcrSeDdh4vsEwMjxlQy0yatawvNwKukQ9SOQCr5utPhH9kGdIkoX9VWk6olvH4GyoFMsSZGiLKGBlS-gI04pbnoKbzx2qPctJNYtxysO598j7NjmHfJ2OPTHTpyPNckyXGuMi79N5C4/s1600/Clambake+NEW.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: right;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgCcrSeDdh4vsEwMjxlQy0yatawvNwKukQ9SOQCr5utPhH9kGdIkoX9VWk6olvH4GyoFMsSZGiLKGBlS-gI04pbnoKbzx2qPctJNYtxysO598j7NjmHfJ2OPTHTpyPNckyXGuMi79N5C4/s640/Clambake+NEW.jpg" width="562" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;">Clambake has always been one of my favorites. I've seen dozens over the years that people have made and have yet to see one that hasn't turned out stunning. You don't have to use beach or ocean themed fabric for Clambake, it looks great in any fabrics. The quilt on my pattern cover was made with <a href="https://emilytaylordesign.com/">Emily Taylor's Felicity</a> fabric- not coastal at all and it looks fabulous!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;">The quilt below was made by the gals at SewMod. If you are thinking of making Clambake (and I think you should!) take a moment to read this </span><a href="https://sewmod.wordpress.com/2015/09/23/clambake-quilt-kits/" style="text-align: left;">blog post</a><span style="text-align: left;"> they wrote about Clambake. They have several tips and tricks they've discovered to help make Clambake even easier. I love it! They are ALL useful tips that I will be implementing when I make my next one. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6P0aNys3o2NIgAiZROP4Aj4Q2qogFxhiOttNWAHCW9-q3vhxIOrbt4YzGKC3lU_wxN25HCFF0EEd9PN8BZSI6OUQ8qLFR93S1cApSLG9Kr93B8c3IX7DHWH2E-Kx6GLy3RYvcU18byD4/s1600/Camelot-+Paradise+Fabric.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="368" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6P0aNys3o2NIgAiZROP4Aj4Q2qogFxhiOttNWAHCW9-q3vhxIOrbt4YzGKC3lU_wxN25HCFF0EEd9PN8BZSI6OUQ8qLFR93S1cApSLG9Kr93B8c3IX7DHWH2E-Kx6GLy3RYvcU18byD4/s400/Camelot-+Paradise+Fabric.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My favorite of their tips is to glue baste instead of pin. Glue basting is very popular right now. People use glue for all kinds of things- even to place their binding before stitching it down. I mention in the pattern to use pins on each curve, but gluing them down is GENIUS! You better believe it's going to go so much faster this way without the danger of getting poked and scratched. My favorite quilting glue is <a href="http://www.jillilystudio.com/shop/AppliGlue/p/AppliGlue.htm">Jillily Studios Appli-Glue</a>. It has been formulated for use on fabric with years of testing and is amazing. There's a lot of glues out there to choose from and I've tried a ton of them- Appli-Glue is the best.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You may have noticed a trend on social media this last year. Lots of Clambake style quilts have come out. Some require curved piecing while others are completely pieced. Even die cut companies are making large clam shell dies. This often happens in the quilting community, as soon as the trend hits multiple variations of a similar design come out. On occasion a variation will come out and the designer will have used the same name for her pattern even though the design is different. Although slightly frustrating, it's just part of the industry. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Regardless of name and technique, my Clambake pattern has been around long before the others. Perhaps if I had waited a few years to design Clambake it might have been more popular. But sometimes I'm just ahead of the curve.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Purchase a Clambake Pattern <b><a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/179866425/clambake-quilt-pattern-pdf">HERE</a></b>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
HAPPY SEWING!</div>

Hi friends! I hope you all had an enjoyable holiday season and are ready for a new year full of fun and creative projects. I know I am! And I'm super excited to share a new one with you because it is AWESOME!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZnQ0mdtSn1nNNS84lHcu43B4ysNHYyv8IPIB_9o0RaC1bKz4CJAkYperaekml0WHe9Y80rpp-u2DSPxKCmLv28ELlJsRH-Aaa9a0HCKih60bEk1R_d1wORDgbMKMTq1FPsumigzDTBsw/s1600/product_11_400.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZnQ0mdtSn1nNNS84lHcu43B4ysNHYyv8IPIB_9o0RaC1bKz4CJAkYperaekml0WHe9Y80rpp-u2DSPxKCmLv28ELlJsRH-Aaa9a0HCKih60bEk1R_d1wORDgbMKMTq1FPsumigzDTBsw/s640/product_11_400.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
So, you know my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/193463048/pdf-big-game-pattern?ref=shop_home_feat_1"><b>Big Game</b></a> quilt pattern? Well I have partnered with my friend <b>Emily Taylor</b> from <a href="https://emilytaylordesign.com/"><b>Emily Taylor Designs</b></a> and <a href="https://patternjam.com/"><b>Pattern Jam</b></a> to offer you my Big Game pattern on a pre-printed fabric panel!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCjeizMcuJAef1z2hyPCyqx93h4obUJQE0hghHOmKLlSMv1pfKUBisTGu0EG9w44UOSsY7BSO2iSXvGd6jEKPJRo1jS59iGA5iT01BsK6a0-v9XXLoDLED14C8b80A5k-pZ3YSzvcFNK8/s1600/product_10_400.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCjeizMcuJAef1z2hyPCyqx93h4obUJQE0hghHOmKLlSMv1pfKUBisTGu0EG9w44UOSsY7BSO2iSXvGd6jEKPJRo1jS59iGA5iT01BsK6a0-v9XXLoDLED14C8b80A5k-pZ3YSzvcFNK8/s640/product_10_400.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I know what you're thinking about the panel prints of the '80's. Ugh!Well those are gone and these are in!This design above was offered at Christmas. Isn't it cute!? These beautifully designed quilt panels are gorgeous. Simply add batting, a back, quilt it and it's done. I LOVE this idea. What is even better is at <b><a href="https://patternjam.com/custom-quilt-tops">Pattern Jam</a></b> you can customize it yourself! If you're not a fan of the design offered, or maybe you just don't like a certain print or color, customize it the way you want and they'll ship it right to you. So cool!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Wait until you see the cute print they designed for Winter/Valentine's day. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTU3R34SFtCEQ52EmQHzCm_zcHSNr7EE4IubC5OYqOM6i4blQoXNFR3IrGFtAgKaYIc7Fwhg2jYG7UJDYZUh3FwMI9-zmPlFkZHgpaPOvETsjnVAgeviRdSi5uAM-TUpkGJouXbtBpk4Y/s1600/product_38_400.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTU3R34SFtCEQ52EmQHzCm_zcHSNr7EE4IubC5OYqOM6i4blQoXNFR3IrGFtAgKaYIc7Fwhg2jYG7UJDYZUh3FwMI9-zmPlFkZHgpaPOvETsjnVAgeviRdSi5uAM-TUpkGJouXbtBpk4Y/s640/product_38_400.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Check out the "<a href="https://patternjam.com/custom-quilt-tops/lumberjack-love-big-game"><b>Lumberjack Love</b></a>" panel. All those awesome plaids. The panel measures 50" x 63" a perfect throw size for the couch, chair or bed. Or even hang it on the wall as shown here. LOVE! Back it with minky and everyone in the family will fight over it.....or not. Because the best part is the price. At only $59.99 you can order one for everyone in the family and customize them each so nobody takes someone else's blanket! Seriously, best idea EVER.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love this idea. Now I just have to decide whether to customize it or order as is. What the heck- I'll do one of each! I was going to order one for the hubs for Valentine's Day but I just had the best idea- coordinating his and her quilts! LOVE IT!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
By the way. this isn't the only design they offer. They have others that are super cute or you can always design you own!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ok, gotta go order my quilt tops. What are you waiting for!?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Some of you may recognize the quilt pictured above. It's a pattern I designed that was featured as a bonus pattern in <a href="http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/magazines-more/american-patchwork-and-quilting">American Patchwork and Quilting</a> magazine. Since the pattern was offered in a bonus booklet attached only to newsstand issues of the magazine, many people weren't able to get their hands on it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have received countless emails inquiring about this pattern over the last year. And I understand why. It's one of my favorites, too! This pattern is a great way to use up those smaller pieces of fabric that you just can't bear to get rid of. And you don't have to be a kid to enjoy this quilt (although I'm sure any kid would LOVE it) because I made this one for ME!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Are you kicking yourself because you don't have the pattern?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well I am happy to say that it is FINALLY available to everyone!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can find the pattern in my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/247247787/color-me-quilt-pattern-pdf">Etsy shop</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I've been trying to get these patterns out for several weeks now and it's been one things after another but they are finally ready. FINALLY!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigzBvRTBTCU9sl5eEYQGrzRBbLR6cdb3MTKvR-jPU6MKM6nGlOjLy6ym2vvuJqtR8unyxSapfPXBUsYagO33qkqslOK6cwp8Zb7-LdOJqhiheZub3TAhEye5OUuzHlIFiWqv3Hvbt9kgM/s1600/Bottom%2527s+Up++COVER-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigzBvRTBTCU9sl5eEYQGrzRBbLR6cdb3MTKvR-jPU6MKM6nGlOjLy6ym2vvuJqtR8unyxSapfPXBUsYagO33qkqslOK6cwp8Zb7-LdOJqhiheZub3TAhEye5OUuzHlIFiWqv3Hvbt9kgM/s640/Bottom%2527s+Up++COVER-1.jpg" width="430" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Due to popular demand from my market booth I've released "Bottom's UP!"- my Sodalicious logo quilt. This is such a fun and easy quilt that showcases every flavor, um, print in the entire collection.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As soon as my strike off's arrived I knew I had to make "Boomerang" out of the diet colorway. It looks tasty enough to eat!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"Sodalicious" is a take on a simple traditional block done in two ways. I love the look of this quilt when the blocks are randomly pieced. What's great about this quilt is it really would look great in any fabric collection. A must have for your stash.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"Spin the Bottle" was a show stopper at market. Everyone that passed by commented on it and I was glad that they loved it as much as I do. I have to give credit to my Dad for this one since he came up with the basic idea during his last visit. Thanks Dad!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'll tell you what, people went CRAZY over these placemats at market. I hadn't planned on writing the pattern for them since I usually stick to quilts but how could I not? There are 12 placemats all together divided into two 6-packs: Diet and Regular. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When I sketched up "Sippin'" I was so excited to start stitching. When it started to come together I was rather giddy. This quilt is fun as a throw and would look adorable in a child's nursery.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"Kegger" is my take on the tumbler design but uses a single piece of fabric for each 'keg'. This pattern is perfect for large scale prints that you want to show off. Thanks to my friend Natalie for the name ;o)</div>

<br />
I was super excited to get to play with this fun new pattern from <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/">Fat Quarter Shop</a>. Those ladies are so talented and come up with such fun projects. This was no exception.<br />
<br />
The Joyful Jelly Roll Tree Skirt is a gorgeous pattern that goes together quickly and will look adorable in any fabrics.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiJwnOiaq3VYlxmbbFH1cPqRd6YM_eyst6ilr_abIvAy1nmRvsfaW6uPqJMq3BzuXfo89vp3VoweM9Uq2literTibXPXcgLT2ZwcYQFSCpGhasWFgBMnobcVwkBZDakPIpQWf6JDLiXTs/s1600/IMG_0386.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiJwnOiaq3VYlxmbbFH1cPqRd6YM_eyst6ilr_abIvAy1nmRvsfaW6uPqJMq3BzuXfo89vp3VoweM9Uq2literTibXPXcgLT2ZwcYQFSCpGhasWFgBMnobcVwkBZDakPIpQWf6JDLiXTs/s640/IMG_0386.JPG" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I put the top together in an afternoon and it's sat that way ever since. You see, I started sewing and my mind started wandering.<br />
<br />
<i>I just made a tree skirt last year so I don't really need another one....</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>But this fabric is so cute and the style is different from my other one.... </i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>I could just change them out every other year.... </i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>Or maybe gift it to a family member or friend.</i><br />
<br />
You know how it is. The thoughts kept coming. And then, in usual Emily fashion I just decided to do something completely different. I'm going to leave my top whole and make a table topper.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0vwZhh17WJ0Ey5Oh3FNUBgx8_TlMkHMIW9E7Qd56_2SzMDoExgmjTqVj_FSvfurHH58wTkNCSSOKSv_c3jxfGNtn5CNqyet_3rdRpfHRX3f3CfweMtz0jhZxPLC2739wr7uyOQA_Ukyo/s1600/IMG_0384.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0vwZhh17WJ0Ey5Oh3FNUBgx8_TlMkHMIW9E7Qd56_2SzMDoExgmjTqVj_FSvfurHH58wTkNCSSOKSv_c3jxfGNtn5CNqyet_3rdRpfHRX3f3CfweMtz0jhZxPLC2739wr7uyOQA_Ukyo/s640/IMG_0384.JPG" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">The size of the finished skirt is nice and generous and fits my table nicely. Now I just have to figure out how to finish it so I still get a quilty look but it has a nice drape like a table cloth. Any suggestions?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">You can get the pattern for Fat Quarter Shop's Joyful Jelly Roll Tree Skirt <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/catalog/product/view/id/47062/s/joyful-jelly-roll-tree-skirt-pdf-quilt-pattern/category/8000/">HERE</a>. They also have <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/joyful-jelly-roll-tree-skirt-kit">kits</a> and <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/backing-set-joyful-jelly-roll-tree-skirt-kit">backing </a>sets available made from the adorable <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/jingle-fat-quarter-bundle-44407">Jingle</a> collection by <a href="http://katespaindesigns.blogspot.com/">Kate Spain</a> (Love her!)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
And in normal Fat Quarter Shop style they have an awesome video tutorial to go along with the pattern on YouTube with all sorts of fun tips and tricks for you as you sew your tree skirt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">If you're wondering about the delicious fabric I chose for my Joyful Jelly Roll Tree Skirt (or table topper) here it is-</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The moment I saw this fabric I was itching to sew with it and then Fat Quarter Shop contacted me and I knew it was perfect. Those foxes! And I love the circle and half-square triangle prints. But they're all gorgeous and "festive". Then again, I love everything <a href="http://www.kayajoydesigns.com/category/blog/">Tamara Kate</a> designs. Festive Forest is available from <a href="http://www.michaelmillerfabrics.com/shop/collections/festive-forest.html">Michael Miller Fabrics</a> and is in stores now!</div>

Did you know yesterday marked 6 months until Christmas? So what are you waiting for!?</div>

So here she is, in all her glory- my market booth from Spring 2015 International Quilt Market Minneapolis. I know many of you have wanted to see details and hear all about it's creation but I'm also writing this post so I can have the memory of it to look back on.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Many people asked me at market where my inspiration comes from. They also want to know if I think about my booth all the while creating the fabric collection and the answer is YES. Usually I know from early on what form my display with take. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sodalicious was a little bit different in the fact that I knew i wanted to a soda shop feel but wasn't exactly sure how to carry it out. The main reason is that every idea I had didn't lend well to the fact that I was flying from UT to MN and was trying to stick to a small budget- meaning I didn't want a heafty shipping bill.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Not long after the planning began I got the boost of inspiration I needed in the form of an </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These chairs were not easy to find. I searched high and low and was coming up empty. Of course I found chairs similar but they were super expensive. My other issue was that I wanted to paint them aqua and thus needed to have them early enough to ship and they couldn't be heavy. I finally stumbled on the pair in a shop called<a href="http://www.homeagainconsignment.net/"> Home Again</a> in Midvale, UT. The table was an easier find at <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40063632/">IKEA</a> which I knew would be purchased in MN. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The other element I knew was a must would be the awning. Lucky for me Michael Miller Fabrics had the perfect stripe from their<a href="http://www.michaelmillerfabrics.com/thick-stripe.html"> BEKKO collection</a>. The fabric part of the awning was made prior to market which I packed in my suitcase.</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Of course a big part of my market booth are the patterns I design to show off the fabric. I'll write more about them in a later post. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I divided my booth into colorways and showed the "Diet" on the left and the "Regular" on the right. Along with the quilts I set up shelves (IKEA) to display items relating to a soda shop including striped paper straws, colored candy and gumballs and Soda bottles.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEv1Bf48fcxrETLomwgIdiweWGO_vKIIhGTnaXJF995UrM9niHA96aOVtQ5tEKmyYQajeqV6XyRxe9YSVL1wi8SNt-3jZKUs2GLMwtNRy9sfcKqaZ6s-kHiD3Ico5BpiW30ae9iExxukI/s1600/P1090643+-+Copy+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEv1Bf48fcxrETLomwgIdiweWGO_vKIIhGTnaXJF995UrM9niHA96aOVtQ5tEKmyYQajeqV6XyRxe9YSVL1wi8SNt-3jZKUs2GLMwtNRy9sfcKqaZ6s-kHiD3Ico5BpiW30ae9iExxukI/s640/P1090643+-+Copy+%25283%2529.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The soda bottles were wrapped in Sodalicious labels designed with the same print and flavors as the fabric. A few other elements completed the look including fat quarters, applique pillows, a little bit of greenery and my Sodalicious bottle cap signs. The signs were actually a clearance Hobby Lobby find that featured a St. Patrick's day motif. A little spray paint and some vinyl stickers and they were perfect.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Another element that I found which was one of my favorites is the marquee "S" (battery operated) which I found at<a href="http://www.joann.com/search?q=marquee%20letter"> JoAnn's</a>. (I only saw red in my store but apparently they come in white, black and metal as well)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My logo wall hanging quilt hung front and center. Originally I made a dresden plate but once I had the idea for the applique bottles in each print there was no stopping me. Due to popular demand at market I will be publishing it as a pattern.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A few other fun finds were the wood six pack holder that I painted red. It also had a bottle opener on the side which came in handy sunday afternoon when we needed a drink.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We also found the red gumball machine at Home Again and knew it had to come with. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And can you see that amazing bottle cap basket? Thanks to friends with a good eye we found that in an antique market in SLC. It was priced a bit higher than I would've liked but I knew if I left it behind I would've regretted it. So glad I got it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lastly you might see the cup of soda. Well that was my drink. It went along with the decor so well I kept it on the shelf instead of trying to hide it. :o) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8Zr0fdPrcs2CginpPFS15VuXuQKwsHFO-1Y37zSR1i8VrcLydwE9JSksWo5lhMHZkpBjTKhUXA6wOvQokQlk5qY5PIM-XQ2AnJTAg_neao1mdn2vT5XjvvaeNr_pA_AtaP9ziNwp_AZo/s1600/20150516_110843.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8Zr0fdPrcs2CginpPFS15VuXuQKwsHFO-1Y37zSR1i8VrcLydwE9JSksWo5lhMHZkpBjTKhUXA6wOvQokQlk5qY5PIM-XQ2AnJTAg_neao1mdn2vT5XjvvaeNr_pA_AtaP9ziNwp_AZo/s640/20150516_110843.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All of the ideas and work really come second nature to me. I don't say that to boast, in fact I told many people it's a blessing and a curse. Sometimes I can't shut my brain off. Or I get an idea I'm so stuck on it's difficult to move on even when it seems impossible. However I am truly grateful for the talents I've been given and the avenue in which I have to develop and share them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was pleasantly surprised when I was awarded the ribbon for creativity at market. There are lots of amazing designers with crazy creative booths at market and I'm thrilled to be among them. But being singled out and honored with an award is awesome and makes all the hard work and craziness worth it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Thanks Everyone!</div>

Oh, it was my kids' last week of school this week, too. Anyway I've been thinking about posting a market recap soon and then this happened today. WHAT!? I'm freaking out a bit (ok so I ran around the house screaming and jumping up and down) But really for a SAHM who loves to play with fabric this is MAJOR. Special thanks to Kris Thurgood from <a href="http://www.mygirlfriendsquiltshoppe.com/">My Girlfriend's Quilt Shoppe</a> in Logan, UT for the shout out. Love ya girl!<br />

HAPPY SEWING!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1637590958508818905.post-84095411455025815932014-11-25T10:07:00.004-07:002014-11-25T10:07:49.904-07:00Counting On Christmas<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Are you starting to feel it? I've had the Christmas bug since Halloween! It's a big deal this year since I haven't felt very Christmasy the last few years. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I started feeling it and now I hope it never leaves.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My daughter has been very adamant this year about not putting up Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving. She's only 9 but she notices how Thanksgiving gets skipped right over, especially in the stores. And I have to agree. So our tree will have to wait until after Thanksgiving to be put up. But I did manage to sneak my<a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/212719303/counting-on-christmas-pdf?ref=shop_home_feat_3"> "Counting on Christmas"</a> quilt on to the wall. I mean, I did need to take a picture and there's no sense in taking it down if I'm just going to put it back up in a couple of days :o)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/212719303/counting-on-christmas-pdf?ref=shop_home_feat_3"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgru72iPfe1teqikH6TOn-T9LarnN9QHhE5vcJt0xrc3AeUdtb2c3dYEIjHs2ybTXATgLK0YvAm75aIJNTNfmPsj870SKK52ldjjGGAz1nU8HrforAOdgp4mceAJtPPbhcPC3_a1ntayo4/s1600/Counting+on+Christmas+COVER.jpg" height="640" width="440" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I just finished a remake of my advent calendar quilt- <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/212719303/counting-on-christmas-pdf?ref=shop_home_feat_3">Counting on Christmas</a>. I wish I could tell you these fabrics are in your local shop but I've been saving (hoarding?) them for years. One of my very favorite Christmas collections is <a href="http://katespaindesigns.blogspot.com/">Kate Spain's</a> 12 Days of Christmas</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfd2c1g_rujUqyLaNaLj-R05J3Yw9HWcuuhToXnOgxIV9pIqB9WUBqvQzy1T_vX1GuhOs5lDjH9gyvF8hVFuoqKJHhMAHpnv_g37OYYdgSnz0Q00IowSPzGbc0fmTTmsVXSBxW6AyMATI/s1600/12-days-of-christmas.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfd2c1g_rujUqyLaNaLj-R05J3Yw9HWcuuhToXnOgxIV9pIqB9WUBqvQzy1T_vX1GuhOs5lDjH9gyvF8hVFuoqKJHhMAHpnv_g37OYYdgSnz0Q00IowSPzGbc0fmTTmsVXSBxW6AyMATI/s1600/12-days-of-christmas.jpeg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You have to admit, it's simply delicious! But from 2010 it's a little hard to come by. Thanks to a dear friend and a quick thumb on an IG destash I was able to score a couple Layer cakes and some yardage earlier this year. Oh, you haven't seen the last of it yet :o)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Are you dying to make one of your own? The pattern is available as an instant download in my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/212719303/counting-on-christmas-pdf?ref=shop_home_feat_3">Etsy shop!</a> Now I know we're getting a little close to the start of December but since it's fusible applique it goes together so quickly you can have the top done in an afternoon. And if you're a real plan ahead type you can start planning for a twin size for next year. I always thought it would be the cutest for my kids to have countdown quilts on their beds during the month of December. Right!? Somehow I don't think my 14y/o would agree :o)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Scott is one of the best people...EVER! He and I became friends and Quilt Market and although we only hang out twice a year it's always awesome to see him. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I still remember one of my first markets coming back to my booth after a quick minute away and finding a blue nickel sitting on the table. It took me a minute to make the connection and I hurried to find him and say HI. This last spring we enjoyed a fun lunch away from market (it seriously felt like we were cutting school) along with our friend <a href="https://www.facebook.com/FrancesNewcombeDesign">Frances Newcombe </a>of Art Gallery fame. It was my favorite moment from spring market- we had so much fun!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Take a minute and head over to <a href="http://auribuzz.wordpress.com/2014/11/01/november-2014-designer-of-the-month/">Aurifil's blog </a>to learn about Scott. Really, if there's anyone you want to know in the quilting world, Scott should be it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Don't forget to download the instructions to his block and to enter into the contest each month to win a package of Aurifil thread!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
From the moment I got wind that John (aka <a href="http://www.quiltdad.com/">Quilt Dad</a>) was working on this book I could hardly contain my excitement for it's release. I knew it was going to be fabulous but really I had no idea. This book blew me away!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOvfz-i5zGKYNBQ6OMFKxYEYjo395nE_fXDIBq17sWvJEbuR5vHD0Jxm5rywWfQm4kjSPFG2HZgggmP28Ue-jIDsH8KLa0ZBPDjgoRStn8E5o0dgh9lW8Ts6C_Mm314rCqkjMJB-EKe9g/s1600/IMG_0029.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOvfz-i5zGKYNBQ6OMFKxYEYjo395nE_fXDIBq17sWvJEbuR5vHD0Jxm5rywWfQm4kjSPFG2HZgggmP28Ue-jIDsH8KLa0ZBPDjgoRStn8E5o0dgh9lW8Ts6C_Mm314rCqkjMJB-EKe9g/s1600/IMG_0029.JPG" height="640" width="512" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The whole idea of the book is to get you to look at fabrics in a different way and to use those fun, vibrant fabrics in places you would normally reserve for boring neutrals (white, grey, etc). John has designed 16 amazing quilts using colors and prints that make you say "Wow! I wish I'd thought of that!" </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One of those quilts is Fallen Timbers, pictured above. I'm the boring quilter that reserves prints and color for the blocks and uses white for sashing between blocks. I absolutely LOVE how John used a variety of prints, many light in color, for the main blocks and chose a gorgeous grass green for the sashing between. The overall look is stunning!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj93FYISoUzO6k9jZ6OxRjUHwbIyoh6ndd4R4qI7t8Kai_xnjx-mlHPbA9nH_k89Umk9dtRPbelfnXTRUjPJFymH95CIgyiKl8iFdKvI9tDhAhqfBoAtXAD1Sq4Xrse_6gHKaPQWC643yU/s1600/IMG_0030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj93FYISoUzO6k9jZ6OxRjUHwbIyoh6ndd4R4qI7t8Kai_xnjx-mlHPbA9nH_k89Umk9dtRPbelfnXTRUjPJFymH95CIgyiKl8iFdKvI9tDhAhqfBoAtXAD1Sq4Xrse_6gHKaPQWC643yU/s1600/IMG_0030.JPG" height="640" width="510" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Another quilt that I LOVE in the book is Raven Rock. John didn't use any boring neurtals in this quilt. In fact there is no sashing, background, etc- it doesn't need it! The bold strips of fabric flow through the quilt with graphic movement. It's awesome! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Let's not forget the cover model and show stopper- Pacific Crest! Those prints, in that layout, with the deep blue background is breathtaking. I'm hoping to make up my own version of this quilt some time soon. Guess what I've chosen as my fabrics!? (hint: see the first picture :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This book should be in everyone's quilt book library. The patterns are fabulous and perfect for all quilters regardless of their level of expertise. My other favorite part of this book? The photography- it's stunning!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So, do you want to win an ebook of Beyond Neutral courtesy of Martingale?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Simply leave a comment telling me the fabric(s) you would use in your own Beyond Neutral quilt. I'll choose a winner and announce on Friday!</div>

So a little over a week ago I celebrated another birthday. The hubs treated me to a weekend getaway to sunny St. George. On the agenda was a visit to <a href="http://www.nps.gov/zion/index.htm">Zion's National Park</a> to conquer <a href="http://www.zionnational-park.com/zion-angels-landing-trail.htm">Angel's Landing</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Just to preface- I am not an experienced hiker. I enjoy a leisurely hike through the woods, on a trail. Recently I mentioned to the hubs that I would like to do more hiking so he thought this would be fun. We have been to Zion's a couple of times and talked about the hike but my health wasn't great at the time and decided against it. I thought, on the brink of my 38th year that it would be a great time to do this hike.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is us at the beginning with Angel's Landing behind us. See my smile? I was excited for this fun adventure. I had no idea what was ahead of me. :o)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's sometimes difficult to tell scale in a picture. Even with the heads in the bottom of the picture it's difficult to tell just how tall this peak is. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlZivKZck6mj-lkpXonPBEbHmMxX7lY2spdFg9l4ood1Ruxu39kUcaqBPStR0OgL4snX4LNQHFgkze9uCleECYGRNaqvmSV57holZp8QRV-6oQESlI_cYJsTfuh1PJJwd2Q3n7zBhSFCo/s1600/IMG_0003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlZivKZck6mj-lkpXonPBEbHmMxX7lY2spdFg9l4ood1Ruxu39kUcaqBPStR0OgL4snX4LNQHFgkze9uCleECYGRNaqvmSV57holZp8QRV-6oQESlI_cYJsTfuh1PJJwd2Q3n7zBhSFCo/s1600/IMG_0003.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The hike starts off gradually and eventually leads into a series of switchbacks. If you've ever been to Disneyland or any amusement park you know how horrible those switchbacks in line can be. These weren't too different. I quickly became aware of how difficult this hike was going to be for me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(If you look closely you can see people on the different ledges of the switchbacks)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is a look down at the trail from high atop the switchbacks. If this seems crazy to you, you haven't seen anything yet!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The weather was gorgeous as we started out. It definitely got warm, even hot as we were hiking but there was a cool breeze that came through to cool us as we continued on. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After the first series of switchbacks we walked along a canyon for a bit. This was an easy trail that meandered along. It was a nice break from the steady climb we had just come from.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I took this pic in the gift shop before our hike started. I thought it was a bit funny sounding. We have a lot of Walter's in our family. I giggled at the sticker having no idea what I was in for.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Walter's Wiggles is no joke! This is a series of 21 steep switchbacks. At this point in the hike i was struggling. I've talked about<a href="http://crazyoldladiesquilts.blogspot.com/2013/03/rant.html"> my health here on the blog</a> before. It is nothing short of frustrating. I pushed myself but knew not to push too far. I had to take lots of breaks. The hubs was super supportive and never complained once.</div>
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We finally reached the Scout Lookout point. I knew there was more to come but wasn't really looking forward to it at this point. The hubs asked if I wanted to turn back but I figured I'd come this far, I might was well keep going. Anyway, I wanted to reach the top.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I took pictures of the signs before I packed up my camera for the rest of the hike. I know it's difficult to see on the screen my picture of a sign but basically the rest of the hike is along a sandstone ridge using chains to help along the way. </div>

There are warnings to those fearful of heights. You just don't mess around up here.</div>

It was pretty crowded at different points on the trail. Sometimes we had to stop and wait for people to come down before we could continue up. I was grateful for those times to rest. My legs were tired and I used the chains to my advantage using my upper body to keep climbing. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We would come to the end of a series of chains at the top of a ridge and I would be so excited thinking we were there. And then I would turn my head and see more people climbing and realize I wasn't there yet. I just wanted to be done!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This guy kept encouraging me and helping me along. There were so many little things he did that touched my heart. It may sound cheesy but I just kept thinking "He really loves me. He really cares" I didn't even need to ask for help, he was just there. If that was the only thing I learned on this hike it was enough. He carried the pack with all the water. Every time I saw an older person or even a young kid on the hike and said "See, even they can do it without trouble" he would remind me of what I've been through and the mountains I've already climbed, encouraging me to go on but supporting me if I didn't want to continue. He really is the best! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We finally came to the last big haul. If it looks like it's almost straight up, that's because it is!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We rested for a moment while people came down including a young couple with an INFANT in front snuggly carrier. Seriously!? </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I really wasn't very happy. I was glad to be at the top but I was so spent. I asked the hubs if he would call 911 and have them air lift me from the top. I was not looking forward to the climb down.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"Take my picture so I have proof I did this and let's get the heck off this mountain!"</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It really was something up there to look around at the valley below; to look at all the sandstone mountains and the canyon; to think about our beautiful earth and God's wondrous creation. Moments like that are awe inspiring.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We trekked down pretty quickly. My legs felt like jello and my upper back ached from pulling myself up the chains. We scrambled down the rock and jogged a lot of the way down. I scoffed at people passing us when we were headed up but realized when I was going down that it was much easier to use the decline to my advantage. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The 5.4 mile round trip took us about 5 hours. Only 1 1/2 hours of that was to come down. When we reached the bottom we headed straight for the drinking fountain to fill up with cool water.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have to say, as miserable as it was, I do feel a great sense of accomplishment to have conquered Angel's Landing. And if asked if I'll ever do it again the answer is a firm and certain...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><b>NO!</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After a few days of resting sore muscles I'm happy to be back at my sewing machine :o)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
HAPPY SEWING!</div>

But can you remember just a few months ago when the sky was grey and dreary? Well folks, in just a couple short months we're going to be right back in the middle of ......WINTER!<br />

I love winter..... for the first few days. After that I'm so over it and always looking for a way to beat out those winter blues. This winter I won't have to worry because I've already got plans and YOU should join me!<br />

The other day she had a CRAZY day- literally. She featured me, the Crazy Old Lady along with Amanda Jean from <a href="http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/">Crazy Mom Quilts</a>. I LOVE HER!! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Park City</b> was one of the first prints I designed for the collection. Originally each hexagon only had one trophy in it and the animal varied in each including an Elk, Mule Deer, and Moose. While playing around with the trophies I got this snowflake design and loved it! It was decided that choosing only one animal would be best so I stuck with the trophy motif from the Trophy print. I LOVE the snowflake shape that it makes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
From the beginning of it's creation I knew I wanted woodgrain somewhere in the Rustique collection. This fabric line was in the works for a while and by the time it was ready to go there were lots of woodgrain fabric already out there. I decided not to have a woodgrain print and instead chose to add just a touch in these prints. I really like the accent they add to Park City.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had the idea for <b>Trophy</b> all along. I knew I would have deer heads with antlers evenly spaced on a background. In my head I envisioned wallpaper. What would these deer heads look like on a wall? My deer went through several drafts before deciding on the one you see here. Their antlers were a work in progress, too. Originally they were just antlers. My husband helped direct me to the specific type of deer and the best "rack". I really learned a lot about deer, specifically the difference between whitetail and mule deer. At some point, I don't remember exactly when, but I had the idea to make the collection more organic by adding flowers and branches. It was an "Ah Ha!" moment when I replaced the antlers with branches and tiny blossoms. It took some convincing to get the hubs on board but I really didn't care if he agreed or not- I loved it! Of course this changed the final look in Park City, also, both for the better.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU2iWl0tL78sSZFUY2HTlNun0cg0816LOH79r86IpJgP5jBS-t2Yv4G76y97lrtJ88ThOcEz5vonjB-gvxyTArFoA5tox-LSbpKXOOA5r7NGWyDaabzjUP-TPfG-TnG8zGBG2y6mG57A0/s1600/RUSTIQUE3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU2iWl0tL78sSZFUY2HTlNun0cg0816LOH79r86IpJgP5jBS-t2Yv4G76y97lrtJ88ThOcEz5vonjB-gvxyTArFoA5tox-LSbpKXOOA5r7NGWyDaabzjUP-TPfG-TnG8zGBG2y6mG57A0/s1600/RUSTIQUE3.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The idea for Embossed came about from one of the original trophies in Park City. This trophy is a whitetail. A lot of the design process is just moving images around and seeing what happens. I wanted to line them up and see what secondary design would appear. Once they were lined up I immediately saw an Aztec/tribal style design and added the little diamonds. I knew this print would be a tone-on-tone print and envisioned embossed leather where the design shows up in shadows depending on the way the light hits it. This one might be my favorite of all the designs despite the fact that my husband still wished they were mule deer instead. :o)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEici72wnw9sTjVUAR1T9wwr2gk1PUuShuhmzdsmgx3xD4V4vPxRfBcQWDKiHG_ivoPoFwTKt36u8FgDELWzX_wPoBgV1N85Umj4Wj0nxR5uJznitcLQOJ-XPNtQzFpCR6afvyp9Ph2FMOg/s1600/RUSTIQUE6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEici72wnw9sTjVUAR1T9wwr2gk1PUuShuhmzdsmgx3xD4V4vPxRfBcQWDKiHG_ivoPoFwTKt36u8FgDELWzX_wPoBgV1N85Umj4Wj0nxR5uJznitcLQOJ-XPNtQzFpCR6afvyp9Ph2FMOg/s1600/RUSTIQUE6.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Crosscut</b> was another idea that I had from the beginning, yet it took on many different forms before the final print was ready. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijAFiD0oY97_9BT2UGxaE3bcshrdxOBNbKWC73mWn5d25krf5iW9_6vnbB6X2MEKNTL2hLJ-TFjZO56wil7dMdgFnVsCBkcWMLCuF8Oe66p3AZctILoHJy4wdbJUTJ7TuiaFu9y1RCL9c/s1600/crosscut.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijAFiD0oY97_9BT2UGxaE3bcshrdxOBNbKWC73mWn5d25krf5iW9_6vnbB6X2MEKNTL2hLJ-TFjZO56wil7dMdgFnVsCBkcWMLCuF8Oe66p3AZctILoHJy4wdbJUTJ7TuiaFu9y1RCL9c/s1600/crosscut.jpg" height="640" width="355" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love the design that crosscut wood branches make so I used images like this as my inspiration. The disks were originally more intricate with their designs and had lots of rings. Each disk was tone-on-tone. When deciding to go more organic I had an idea for flowers. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3Kid7OUm4ttY71TVG3JhfqJbt1XP7aKxpFB1j-sivAIfCjxuQjohf8__52z2UD0JASEcN9fWzFwJXCH2W9XKAkpSasp-2J8UH580BNBg1gAmbqht7Irq4PW_k-m7dP2aVUPucbbCtJEA/s1600/wood+block.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3Kid7OUm4ttY71TVG3JhfqJbt1XP7aKxpFB1j-sivAIfCjxuQjohf8__52z2UD0JASEcN9fWzFwJXCH2W9XKAkpSasp-2J8UH580BNBg1gAmbqht7Irq4PW_k-m7dP2aVUPucbbCtJEA/s1600/wood+block.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The flowers I envisioned were primitive as if they'd been cut from the end of a piece of wood (obviously not as intricate as the ones in the pictures above). Once I designed the flowers I knew I needed to simplify and change the wood disks to follow the feel of the flowers. I color blocked each wood disk and intermixed the woodcut flowers and the Crosscut print was born. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The leaves for <b>Leafpress</b> are like my other prints in the fact that they went through many phases before the final was ready. In fact, my original leaf was the one that was used in Technicolor. Since the first leaf was very geometric and already used in another collection I revisited the leaf for a different look. I thought of leaves in a press and the image they make. I also thought of the "embossed" process of leather and the wood stamp inspiration I used in crosscut. All of those ideas helped shape the leaves for Leafpress.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Adirondack</b> style and decor was one of the ideas that originally inspired me to do this collection. Yes, my husband was a big part but the first thought came here. I saw a page in a fashion magazine (dang I wish I still had it!) And it showed a runway model wearing what looked like a blanket from a cabin. The rest of the page had different images in a design board style of Adirondack style in both fashion and decor. This was a couple of years ago and really got the creative wheels turning in my head of how I could combine Rustic and Chic = Rustique! I absolutely love plaid and developed this plaid to accompany the rest of the print in the collection. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When I first started this collection I sketched out and wrote down a bunch of ideas. Because I started so long about chevrons were just getting started in their fabric fame. I also wrote down feathers. I wanted to do things differently than were already being done which meant that I didn't want a print with feathers on it or a basic chevron. Simply adding a curve to the chevron lines I got a design that looked like feathers and a chevron all at once. <b>Feathering</b>. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love geometric designs and prints. I played around with lots of ideas and like many others was influenced by hexagons and triangles. I changed the shape a bit and developed a cool design. The altered triangles reminded me of a S<b>harktooth</b> necklace one of my brothers got when he was in cub scouts as a kid. Sharks and deer obviously don't fit in the same theme, but shark teeth are used in tribal jewelry. So I managed to make it fit with the theme. :o)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Main prints are always a little bit tricky for me to design. I just think in smaller scale and tinier repeats.<b> Open Season</b> (named for my husband) and <b>Yes, Deer</b> (below) were designed almost simultaneously. In Utah we have a lot of Quaking Aspen trees up in the mountains. We call them "Quakies" and their a beautiful tree. I wanted to incorporate them into my collection somehow but their scale is difficult to work with. If I shortened their trunks they just wouldn't bee quakies anymore. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The bird in the print is a special addition for me since it came from an actual picture I took of a vulture or hawk flying around. After designing the trophy deer head I really wanted some full deer silhouettes. I made a grazing doe and two nice bucks hiding in the trees. By staggering the trees I was able to get a print that could be a good scale to work with and still look like the forest I envisioned.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One thing that I find amusing is the tree trunks themselves. Quakies are white with black notches and knots. This print just did not look good with a colored background so I couldn't make the trees white. I reversed the color placement on the trees for this print and they look awesome! They're just opposite of what they would normally be in nature. :o)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Yes, Deer</b> uses the same buck silhouette from Open Season and carries the wood cut flowers over from crosscut. I don't do a lot of flowers in my design process so I struggled a bit with this print. It went through many revisions and color changes before I was happy with it. I like that my deer is hiding in the gorgeous bouquets of flowers. This print brings a softness to the collection that ties it all together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
