A break from quilting...

My little sister is getting married in a few of weeks. I am her Maid of Honor. I bought a really pretty dress a month or so ago. Even though it was marked two sizes larger than I normally wear (please tell me that's just how formal wear is) it fit just a tiny bit snug. Not too bad, but when I would unzip I felt like I could finally take a deep breath. Well, I kind of forgot about it and decided to eat whatever I wanted until a week ago when I remembered that I was TRYING to eat better and work-out so I could be MORE comfortable in this dress.

I am not the type that can just 'not eat'. I love food WAY too much. Besides, my grouchyness goes way up when I'm hungry. So I asked my sis-in-law (a nurse) what I can do to loose 10 lbs fast. She suggested NO CARBS!!! I laugh at people who don't eat carbs. How can I do this? Of course she said that it's not good for your body long-term but that it could aid in the process to shed a little unwanted lbs. Well, I'm trying. but I'm not doing no carbs- more like LOW CARBS.

For example: tonight for dinner i had 1/2 a dinner roll instead of 3 whole dinner rolls. That was hard. and while my family ate spaghetti, I chowed on shredded zucchini with spaghetti sauce (Very yummy if you haven't tried it).

The problem I'm having is that I don't LOVE many vegetables and GOOD fruit (the kind that actually tastes like it's supossed to) is hard to find in these parts. Oh how I miss living in California and eating a peach that tastes like a peach.

OK. I'll get to the reason why I'm sharing all this with you. I NEED HELP! Does anyone have any good meal/snack ideas that don't involve a TON of carbs? I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas. PLEASE!

p.s.- I'm working on my FIRST tutorial! Woohoo! Hopefully it's ready to post by monday. So I'm not taking a break from quilting completely- just working on the technical side of a quilting blog. :o)

  1. i wish i had some advice for you! We recently made our own yogurt.. heat a gallon of milk to 180, remove from heat let cool to 115 then add 8 tbsp of plain yogurt, let sit overnight, strain the liquid whey (which contains a good amount of the carbs) put on the fridge and enjoy when cold...and when we make a fruit smoothie for breakfast with it it keeps us full until lunch-ish time. im excited to follow this thread and see what other people have to say. im sure you will look great in your dress!!!

  2. My suggestion is to forget the diet, and buy a "Yummie Tummie". Mine has saved my life a few times.
    Good Luck!

  3. If you're fussy, here are some suggestions that might appeal to a larger audience: lunch meat, veggies, egg salad, or tuna wrapped in lettuce leaves(instead of bread); sugar free jello; pepperoni, beef/turkey jerkey, slim jim; hotdog (obviously without the bun).

  4. This is a great time to be able to eat bacon and eggs for breakfast (no toast though!) and not feel guilty. For lunch, load up on a big salad. String cheese is a great snack! So are hard boiled eggs. For dinner, you can have all sorts of meat. Roasts, hamburgers, steak, turkey, grilled fish. For dessert you can have sugar free jello with Redi-Whip on top! Within a week, you'll be shocked that you even miss carbs. :)

Okay, maybe you will still miss carbs, but I'm trying to help out here. "Diets" are all a mind game. And if you believe you don't miss carbs, eventually, you really won't. Its amazing how the body stops craving sugars. The first three days are the hardest.

  6. Em, you will be beautiful! Get one of those granny underwear/control top things. :) Ok, and here are some low-carb foods we like:

string cheese; hummus (I LOVE the lemon/cilantro flavor at Fresh and Easy) and raw veggies; hard boiled eggs (or any other kind); grilled chicken in a big salad (like oriental chicken salad); smoothies

    I don't know, I'm like you. I LOVE carbs!!

  7. Hi, Marcea here, Abbey Lane Quilts, I have done low carbs for years. Anyway, the Dr. Atkins method was less than 20 carbs a day for the first two weeks. It means major water weight loss and shocks the body into forcing the stored fat to be used for fuel.

So for fast weight loss, go 20 carbs or less. That means no bread,
limited fruits, they are very high in carbs, and read every label.

this diet should not be done for any longer than 2 weeks, then follow the South Beach diet which includes fruits, whole grain breads and whole grain rices. nuts and peanut butter will fill in for the missing carbs.

READ THE LABELS OF EVERYTHING. CARBS ARE HIDING EVERYWHERE.

good luck, although i didn't think you needed to lose any weight.

    have a great day.
