I've been sewing some Improv Stars lately. I LOVE this block! It goes together so quick and easy and the best part is that you don't have to worry about lining up those points. ;o)
I can't remember if I've ever really played with batiks before. Most of the quilts I've seen with them haven't really been my style. But then I saw these and decided to give them a chance.
Guess what!? I much like working with batiks. Especially these ones with their fun, bright colors. And the designs- they're so fresh and new.
I haven't quilted a quilt in a long time. I really need to find more time to sew and quilt for fun. :o)
When I started to put this quilt together I decided I wanted to quilt it. I echoed inside each of the stars criss-crossing the center. The quilting is very "organic" because of the wonkiness of each star but it adds character. I matched thread to each star so I wasn't able to get a pic that showed it well. I quilted a "broken glass" motif in the white space. It looks amazing!
My favorite part of this quilt is going to come as a shocker to those of you that know me--- the BINDING!!! I know! It's like "who are you and what have you done with the Crazy Old Lady!?"
Halfway through the quilting I got an idea and decided to follow through with it.
Do you see it? I pieced together strips of the batik fabrics for the binding to mimic the rainbow flow of the stars.
I! LOVE! IT!

piecing the binding is something I have been doing for years - it really adds to the quilt doesn't it - yours is terrific - way to go :)
That is a beautiful quilt!
Very cool! I love the batiks and love the spattering of stars. Great job!
Love the quilt and the binding. Scrappy binding is very cool.
It looks amazing! I agree - any block that doesn't involve matching seams is a winner in my book!
And that trick with the binding is so cool! Now I've gotta think of a quilt I can try that on...
I love your binding too. I like the color splash on white.
I absolutely love this quilt. Stars aren't really my thing... but the way you have done them is.
I love it too! The binding is really an extra wow! Glad you had time to sew for you. It is nice to do that. I love the many varieties of batiks. They are kind of like painting with fabric. Keep up the fun! K-
Cute quilt Emily! Love the binding too.
Yeah! The binding is glorious on a quilt that's already a lot of fun. Brava, Emily!
I personally love batiks and this quilt is gorgeous! I especially love your rainbow binding :)

Love this quilt, and I am with you, the binding is absolutely fantastic!!!
Beautiful quilt! The batiks are fabulous and I hope that by your using them, people's minds will be open to how all types of fabric can make very modern style quilts. I also love the binding. Did something similar a couple of times last year and found it well worth the effort.
This is so gorgeous! I love, love, LOVE rainbow quilts and the pieced binding just goes the extra like. So beautiful - well done!
Ooooh, pretty! I just finished a quitl with rainbow batik colors, and pieced a rainbow binding, too. Great minds & all that, right? ;)
I love it! Great color and anything with stars is awesome.
I love it too!
BeautifuL! Well done
It's not the pieced binding that works so well--it's how beautifully you matched it to the colors of the stars. I didn't realize it at first but it's definitely a wow! factor on this beautiful quilt.
i do love a good ROYGBIV design.
except i usually leave out the O.
orange isn't my favorite.
