Oh, I just love this quilt. My little girl is named Paris and I've had the idea in my head for over a year now. I've been waiting for the perfect fabric to use so I can decorate her room. I used Oasis by 3 Sisters for Moda and I LOVE the variety of colors in it. The best part is I don't even have to re-paint her room!

FLEUR de FRANCE

The Fleur de lis are pieced and then appliqued! I love the difference it makes than just having a solid color.

Flower Power

Ok, so I know the name is not-so-original, but it fits this quilt so well.

I used the aqua, green, brown colors from Moda's new line 'Sugar Pop'. I've had this idea in my little brain for a while but wasn't sure how it would carry. I finally decided that I didn't care and I was going to do it anyway. I would love to hear what you think.

Patchwork Picnic

The moment I saw this fabric (La Petite Ecole by French General for Moda) it spoke to me in 'Americana'. I tried to resist. I was "so over" that phase as of at least 5 years ago. But it kept nagging. And boy am I glad it did!

PATCHWORK PICNIC

I love the simplicity and asymmetry of this pattern. I am currently working on a new version of this pattern using something more spring-y and floral-y (without the applique, of course). Because, as we all know, just because it's in 'Americana' on the cover doesn't mean we can't make it in something entirely different, right!? I'll let you know how it turns out!

Easter Parade

I just can't wait for SPRING! We've had such cold temeratures around here lately. This quilt is just sweet and cute.

All those little babies and the beautiful spring colors are getting me so excited for warmer weather. That Joanna has done it again with her newest line for Moda- BUTTERCUP. Mmmm, so much Fig Tree goodness just begging to be used in this quilt.

It's that time again. All week I'll be featuring my NEW patterns! The first one is

LOVE COUNTS

Remember a hundred years ago when I posted this asking for name suggestions? Well I almost didn't. When finally got around to writing the pattern and thought "Hm, I think I'll name it 'Love Counts'". Then a couple says ago remembered that I needed to see who planted the name in my subconcious. :o)

BARB from Spokane, WA wins a free copy of the pattern for giving me the idea of 'Love Counts'. There were lots of great ideas and I called it several different names throughout the creating process but it's gone to print and 'Love Counts' is on the cover. :o)

Smitten

Valentine's Day is a weird holiday in the quilting industry. See, fabrics for a particular holiday must be in stores months before said holiday so people have enough time to make their holiday project. So Christmas come out in May/June, Halloween is usually around that same time. But Valentine's day well, it comes out in December. Nothing wrong with that except EVERYONE is so focused on the Christmas-y holidays that it often gets overlooked. This year I wanted to make a Valentine pattern and I wanted it to look like a Valentine. But I didn't want it to ONLY work for Valentine's Day. I mean, if someone liked it and wanted to, they could make it in different colors and hang it all year long.

I made mine out of BLISS. It's not a Valentine print- but it works PERFECTLY for this, don't you think!? I wanted to give this a Valentine-y look to it- with the lace-ish scallops on the saide and all. This pattern uses FQ's and a little Steam-A-Seam, other than that it's pretty simple. And if you LOVE IT you can get it Fat Quarter Shop!

Twins (Baby Boom 2!)

(grrr...DAY #5 giveaway info. posted AFTER this!) :o)

The Baby Boom pattern has been SUPER popular. So I thought it would be fun to make another variation. Introducing:

TWINS!

Yes, another 2-in-1 pattern! Am I getting generous or what!? :o) Actually, I just wanted to show a boy version and a girl version in not-so-tradiational colors. I LOVE THEM!

Now, as always, there's no rule that says the first one HAS to be for a boy- you can do it in any color combination you want. Same for the second one. The whole idea is that they are EASY and go together FAST!

The funnest part is the monogram. Don't be scared- it's really not hard. And naturally, if you have twins you're going to need something to tell them apart. :o)

This pattern has already been very popular at my LQS and now you can see why!

Rock Star

This quilt is FUN! There aren't a whole lot of patterns out there aimed at TWEENS so I designed this one with young quilter's in mind. But any young person would LOVE to snuggle up in the quilt whether they're the one who made it, or they recieved it as a gift. With funky elements appliqued to the quilt top you can choose your favorite colors and this would be perfect for any boy or girl. The other great thing is it's easily made with FQ's (and scraps if you have them!). Check out the funky border!? That's one of my favorite parts.

Park City

I am SO EXCITED about this quilt. Iy has been a vision for quite some time and FINALLY is in print. Wanna hear a couple stories? I thought so.



DO you remember back here when I posted about visiting Just Sew? Well, a little recap: I met the cutest gal in th shop that just happened to have one of my patterns in her hand (Flora & Fauna). We talked fabric choices for a while and then I let her do her thing ( didn't want to vrowd her). I was at the cutting table having my goods cut when she brought up the most FABULOUS stack of bolts. I had to have them! So I got FQ's of everything!



Fast forward to today and VOILA! Do you see it? I used that whole stack (and a few extras from the stash) for PARK CITY!



One more quick bit on the name. Had a wonderful lunch with a couple friends a few months back. Moose was there and so was April. We had a nice lunch and talked all sorts of fabric related talk. I mentioned that I was having a hard time with a name for an upcoming pattern. I also mentioned a recent trip to PC (Park City, UT) with the hubs. That's when April said "Why don't you name it Park City!?" GENIUS that girl! And so I did. But April's contribution didn't stop there- in a frantic race to get all my new quilts and patterns done before a deadline April pieced the quilt for me! Didn't she do a fabulous job!?



Now here's the cool thing- it is a LAYER CAKE pattern. But obviously I used FQ's for mine. Doesn't matter what you use as long as you cut your fabric down to 10" squares. It's all in the instructions. :o)

Spook Alley

Last, but definately not least, is Spook Alley. OMG, this wallhanging is so much fun!

I was inspired by my 'Season's Greetings' quilt and this adorably fun line by My mind's Eye for Riley Blake called "Boo to You" Normally I don't go for the bright silly prints, but these were just too cute. Can't wait to get my hands on some 'Haunted Mansion' by Sanae for Moda and make another!

*I'm always taken aback for a moment when I realize I'm making Halloween and Christmas quilts in May/June! Oh the crazy life of a quilter. :o)

Counting On Christmas

Occasionally I have an idea for a quilt that lingers in my head for quite sometime. Then, in an amazing turn of events, everything falls into place and it becomes reality. "Counting on Christma" is one such quilt. As I was packing for market I tossed my inspiration sketch into my carry-on. I kept thinking about this quilt all the way to Minneapolis. And then I met the wonderfully talented Barbara Jones of Quilt Soup and a friendship was born! The moment I laid eyes on her new Christmas line I knew it had to be- she even sold me the "Sample Spree" fabric EARLY so that I could be sure to get some as it was in limited supply! And so I present:

I know I keep saying this about ALL of my new patterns but I LOVE this one. Really, I do. What is most exciting and fun is that this pattern comes with instructions for 3 different quilt sizes. The wallhanging, a throw size (my favorite size quilt) and TWIN size! Seriously. Wouldn't this be the cutest quilt on a childs bed at Christmastime!?

Tiger Lily

Weekends can be a little slow out there in blog-land. So for those of you browsing around I thought I'd give you something fun to look at this weekend.

Sometimes I have an idea for a quilt and as it's coming together I'm just not feeling it. The 'original' quilt that I came up with was just that way. It went through many evolutions that were just "ok" before I finally had that "ah ha!' moment and was inspired to make the finished project:


I am LOVING this quilt right now. In fact, it's my favorite at the moment. From the beautiful 'Fandango' fabrics (thank you Kate Spain for another FABULOUS line), to the simple yet fitting design, to the name 'Tiger Lily' - I just can't get enough. If it weren't up at Pine Needles I'd still have it hanging on my wall.

Season's Greetings

So I mentioned before how much I LOVE Kate Spain- and I'm not the only one. This new line '12 Days' has been much awaited from everyone. But I had to get in on it too. I originally designed this quilt at the end of last year- WAY too late for a Christmas pattern. And then when I saw this line I knew I had to re-visit.

I LOVE IT!!! I'm really liking the trend with quilts where the blocks are more subtle and the whole quilt seems to 'blend'. Many of the new lines with lots of fun, big, prints do this really well. The coolest thing about this quilt is that it uses a Layer Cake! Would you have guessed? Obviously a little yardage is needed for the borders and block backgrounds as well.

So, what do you think?

FLORA & FAUNA

INTRODUCING:

Have you heard? The color of the year is TURQUOISE! At first I wasn't sure about this color- but then I saw this fabric and I knew they were right on. Of course, SANDY GERVAIS has done it again with her spring line- FROLIC.

As I was stitching together this sample names kept popping through my head but I always came back to 'Flora & Fauna'. I wanted to stick Merryweather in there somewhere, but it just didn't work. Anyway, it must've been the inspiration floating through the air because soon after I got all the covers printed I found out that Patty Young's new line for Michael Miller is also called Flora & Fauna. It also features TONS of beautiful turquoise and, if I do say so myself, would look FABULOUS in my Flora & Fauna pattern. Hmmm, maybe I need to get my hands on some of that fabric!

So, if the fabric every shows up I'll have kits on my ETSY for this one too!

Here is the next pattern in our new patterns series:

This pattern was so fun to create! However, after I finished the quilt top I didn't like it anymore. (does that ever happen to you after working with the same fabric for so long?) So I folded it up and set it on my shelf and went on to other projects. After a few weeks I pulled it back out to show and friend and she LOVED it. So I decided to write the pattern for it. Now, it's one of my favorites!

LILIANA features "Verna" by Kate Spain for Moda. This is her debut line with Moda and I know she's going to be a new favorite. In fact, I've already seen a sneak peek of her Christmas line- it's WONDERFUL!

Another thing that makes me so excited about this pattern is that it's the first pattern I am selling KITS for!

The kits will be one sale on my ETSY shop. They come with everything needed to make the quilt top (including Binding and Jumbo ric-rac). The KITS will be $50! (When you add it up, it's really a steal because I'm giving the pattern away for FREE when you purchase a kit!)

Cheery O's

I'm so excited with how this quilt turned out. Although I made mine from an extensive collection of Red, cream and Green's, I wanted to give it a name so it would work well with any prints.

Here's the best part about this quilt- IT'S EASY! You know me, anything that's going to take a long time or give me a headache is out of the question. There's no fancy piecing, no secret technique, just some basic sewing and a little applique. I promise- once you get this pattern, you won't make just one! :o)

I'm sure some of you might wonder where my fabrics came from. Well, they're mostly Moda prints from past lines such including, but not limited to: Shangri La, Roman Holiday, Glace, Cottom Blossoms, and essential dots.

Ninety Nines!

Brand spankin' new! Have you seen SIMPLE ABUNDANCE by Bonnie and Camille? Uuhhhh, you need too. I LOVE IT! I had this pattern idea in my head for a long time- finally the right fabric came around. I love the way the individual prints show, yet they all meld together. What do you think?

In Bloom

Most of you won't even blink an eye looking at this post. But to the few, faithful followers out there you will notice something different. The "In Bloom" quilt that was posted here a few days ago is gone. In it's place is something much more fun.

This idea came to me two nights ago. I woke up yesterday morning and rushed to the store to buy the fabric. I sewed it up yesterday afternoon. Seriously, it was so easy. I am SO excited about this quilt. It was made with 10" squares which makes it 'layer cake' friendly. I'm already planning on making it again in a different fabric.

Whimsy Playground
