I've been thinking about laminates lately. And I'd like to know- If you had some cute laminated fabric, what would you do with it? Is there a project you've been dreaming of that would be especially cool in laminated fabric? I'd like to hear your ideas, so don't be afraid to share.
The thing is I'm having quilter's block regarding lamitaes. I keep thinking about this post from way back when but I don't really have any other ideas. Sure, I could make a bag....but I don't make bags. Seriously. Never have. Starting to think I never will. Maybe someday.
A certain fabric is soon to be available in laminates and I have got to make something cool out of it. So let me hear your ideas. Who knows? You may just end up being the lucky recipient of your own 'plastic plaid'. :o)

Pillows or cushions for the deck benches outside. :)
this is so lame, but I am looking for a laminate or oilcloth that I LOVE to put under my kitchen table...my girls can be messy eaters and I'd like to save the carpet. I also will be making cushons for my chairs with the same fabric...if I ever find it (mind you this means it has to go with my dishes, my decor, my table, and my carpet) I also plan to do somethign for the floor in my girls room too so we can have a "crafting corner" with a little table and chairs.
note: i didn't read your linked post, so i don't know if these are repeat ideas... sorry!
slippers. i have absolutely no idea if it would be comfortable...
a fabric box (not a bag! like this one: http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2011/09/fabric-storage-boxes-per-your-request.html) for keeping outside toys. or just to be wipe-able.
ooh... how about shelf liners? that you just set on the shelf, then pick it up to wipe it off.
my mind is whirling with kitchen ideas.
placemats.
line a wooden tray to store things in the kitchen.
I am carrying a laminate bag - I know you say you don't make bags but they are so cute you might want to reconsider. How about placemats?
You can always make a table cloth. Perfect for messy children. Indoor or outdoor. Fan4may at aol dot com
I'm going to use some laminated fabric or oilcloth to recover the tops of some OLD card tables. I have ladies come over to sew and my dining room table fits 4 of us but very scrunched up. So, I've been buying card tables at garage sales and plan to repaint the legs and recover the tops. Plaid would be great fun.
A rain jacket (like a rain coat, but shorter) and maybe some rainboots and a rain hat.
A raincoat. for me.
Would love to make an umbrella shade. no idea how.
My ultimate fav - a rain coat for my big yellow lab maybe with matching foot protectors. total wimp in the rain and snow.
I have never sewn with laminate or oilcloth but have seen many bag patterns and would love to make one. I'm not sure about things like do I need a special sewing machine needle, is it hard to sew with, etc. Keep us posted - I'm excited to hear more.

I wasn't a bag maker either until about 3 weeks ago & now I love making them! I'm waiting on a "certain laminate" to use that Heather showed a peek of on her blog the other day. Maybe you might want to reconsider!
Do a poncho with a hood.
I would love to put it on the back of a scrappy quilt for a picinic quilt. I always need a truck quilt.
Baby bibs would be great in this... easy clean. Coin purses. Rain hat, but you need to seal the seams with like tent seam sealer. Cute table coasters for under your planted pots.
Oh...you can make a beach tote, coasters, baby bibs are perfect, and art aprons for kids. I also saw a blogger resurface an old padded card table with laminates. She then used spray paint on the legs to match the laminate fabric she used. It was cool.
i think bib is a great idea, what about all weather bunting? and place mats for sure. also want to use laminates for reusable sandwich bags for my daughters lunch bag!
My first project with laminate was a bag and I love it.
As for ideas. Baby changing pads, Covered pad for on the changing table. Art smock with matching floor mat for the toddlers. Apron for the grill chef.
I'm in the market for a baby diaper bag, so I would definitely use laminate for the lining. I know you don't make bags, but maybe we can covert you!
Some other ideas:
raincoats, hats
placemats
makeup bags
A great use for the laminate fabric is a little thread and trash collector. I have a pinch pot type pattern and put the laminate on the inside, cotton on the outside and made a little trash collector that sits next to my sewing machine. since it is laminate on the inside, the threads just pop right out into the trash.
I know you say you don't make bags but you really should give it a try. I'm primarily a quilt maker but bags have taken over my life. There are many wonderful laminates out there. If you get a chance, stop by my booth at Market 1102 and you'll see lots of bags made with laminated cottons. Once you make one, you'll be hooked.
I want to make a parka lined with a matching flannel. I saw some at Gracie Lou's and imagined a really cute table cover--a print in the center, bordered twice, maybe rick rack on the edge.
having just scanned the other comments, I can see I am not original, but I'd say a rain coat.
Or an umbrella if you could make the seams waterproof :)
I would love to make placemats out of a beautiful laminate and table runners to put on my DD's dressers
they always seem to put things on the dressers that they shouldn't, hopefully this will help protect the wood from spills, scratches, etc!
I would love to make a lunch bag for me to take with me to quilting friends houses when we have sew days.

I have been dying to get my hands on some laminate because I keep thinking that Mr. Monkeyboy Jr. would love to use a placemat that is colorful.
Actually, I am looking to protect my beautiful unfinished table from Mr. Monkeyboy Jr.'s greasy pizza hands.
So, placemats are on the list, I also think the laminates would make really cute snack bags for my lunch or even cuter toiletry bags for gifties over the holidays.
